After the circulation became concentrated at the ground, there was a little appendage lowering from
the updraft base, but it didn't look like a funnel at this point. It didn't take long though before a
cone funnel took shape. There was rapid rotation in and around the funnel at this point. It was
pretty cool getting to see it up close. It was only a few hundred yards away at this time, but it was
moving to the northeast, so it was going away from me. I'm looking North in the pictures below. The
farthest left picture is of the appendage before a funnel formed and the last two pictures are of the
funnel.
tornado near the base. I could see really good rotation and debris flying at the surface, but great.

I continued driving East until I got to a road going North. I floored it going North to try to get in close
to the tornado before it crossed the road in front of me. It was moving too fast though and it was
about a mile away when it crossed the road. It was also starting to weaken and fall apart when it
crossed the road. Below are a couple pictures of the tornado crossing the road ahead of me as it died
out.

The tornado quickly roped out after crossing the road. It was on the ground for about seven or eight
minutes I think. I want to say it was rated an F2 or F3, but I can't remember.

the water drops on my camera lens. It seems like I always find a way to screw up good video. I still
managed to sell the video to CNN and the Spanish Channel though. I never realized the Spanish
Channel was in the market for tornado video. I stopped in Topeka on the way home to feed the video
from WIBW. Jim Reed set that deal up for me and I owe him a thanks for it. Overall it was a fun chase

and one of only a handful of tornadoes I got in an incredibly slow 2006 tornado season. I was relatively
lucky. A lot of chasers got totally skunked on tornadoes in 2006, so even though I didn't do good
compared to compared to other years, I did OK compared to how some other people did. 2006 was
definitely the toughest year I've experienced sine I started chasing in 2002.toughest year I've
